First day of Legend cars World Finals was driven in changing weather conditions at Botniaring raceway. Qualifications and heat races were driven which determine the grids for Sunday’s Championship finals.

According to World Finals regulation the drivers get points from qualification as well as both heat races and the driver with most points will start from the pole to the Championship finals.

The ruling Champion Emil Persson drove himself to pole position for tomorrow.

– The level is higher this year compared to last year. The Finnish guys are making this challenging! Tomorrow we will see how it goes. It’s good that we have the World Finals in Finland this time, said Persson.

Semi-Pro pole position for final went to Antti Rantala from Seinäjoki.

– I spun (in the second heat race) and was 10th or 15th. Then just full throttle from there and towards the top. Now we’re gonna fix the car and see where we’re at tomorrow. Of course we’re going for the big trophy, planned Rantala.

Masters class of over 40-year olds was driven in Pekka Lehtola’s command today.

– It’s been pretty tough, nothing has come for free today. Good feeling to start from the pole tomorrow, can’t complain, Lehtola commented.

Golden Masters consists of 50 year olds and up and we will have Finnish blood on the pole tomorrow for this class as well as Markku Parkkari who hasn’t raced for two years had the most points after Saturday.

– I am surprised myself how well everything has gone today. Two years break from racing, 13 years we have driven on these tracks and not a single victory, revealed the enthusiastic pole position man.

Legend Cars World Finals is the first road course World Championship race ever in Finland. The absolute cream of Legend drivers has gathered to Botniaring this weekend.

The Championship finals will be driven tomorrow starting from 1pm.
